Chess is an excellent game for children. It teaches them strategic thinking, logic and it’s fun too!
There is a fine tradition of chess in Kilbonane NS. Throughout the school year, pupils get the opportunity to play against each other, honing their skills.
There are various tournaments throughout the year but perhaps the biggest is the ‘Ficheall’ league, where our pupils face off against the best chess players from local schools! You can find more information at https://www.ficheall.ie/
Our students regularly perform very well in these tournaments, often bringing home trophies and medals!
